Owner/Engineer Justin Kurtz has over 25 years experience as a recording engineer. As a cellist with an undergraduate degree in music, Justin's approach to recording is informed by his musical education. While a master's student at McGill University's program in sound recording he had the opportunity to work at the Tanglewood Music Center in Lenox, MA under the mentorship of grammy award winning engineer and producer, Tim Martyn. Following his graduation Justin worked at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Banff, Alberta as Senior Audio Associate, recording projects for resident artists. In 2001 he relocated to New England to take a position teaching music recording and production at the Hartt School in West Hartford, CT, where he started Laurel Hill. Now based in Northampton, MA, his clients have included the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, VOCE, Noah Baerman, Avery Ensemble, Cuatro Puntos, Carrie Koffman, The Hartford Chorale, Waterbury Symphony Orchestra, Duo46, Dan Roman, Thomas Oboe Lee, Archangel Voices, New World Trio, Concora, Connecticut Valley Chamber Orchestra, Barbara Hopkins, The Vernon Chorale, among many others. His projects have appeared on the Naxos, Albany, Innova, Toccata Classics, Divine Art, and New World record labels.
